Two of the country’s sugar federations yesterday asked for the support of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines in asking the government to crack down on sugar smuggling.
Their petition was coursed through Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra to help curb sugar smuggling which threatens a major industry of the country and could undermine it so that its collapse could lead to the loss of work of some half a million sugar workers.
The two federations are the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the NFSP, and the Confederation of Sugar Producers Associations Inc.
