Fr. Alminaza new
auxiliary bishop of Jaro

Sacred Heart (Bacolod) School of Philosophy president and seminary rector, Fr. Gerardo Alminaza, was appointed the new auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Jaro yesterday.

A native of San Jose, Sipalay City, 49-year-old Alminaza becomes the second Negrense bishop added to the list of members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

“I consider this as a gift for our Diocese as we are celebrating our Jubilee this year…it comes as a surprise and I have mixed feelings about the announcement,” the new bishop said.

Alminaza grew up in Sipalay and finished his college and philosophy studies at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Lupit, Bacolod City. He completed his Theology studies at the University of Santo Tomas.

With his appointment, he said greater responsibility awaits him as he will start serving a bigger church.

The first Negrense bishop was the late Msgr. Vicente Salgado, who was assigned in Romblon.*NAB
