Batinguel bags under-18
basketball tourney crown

Barangay Batinguel bested  23 other  teams in  the  just-concluded Palaro  ng Bayan  inter-barangay under-18 basketball tournament held  at the  Dumaguete  City Multi-Purpose Center, in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete.

In the first encounter of their best-of-three championship series, Batinguel ripped Barangay Bantayan, 76-61, while Barangay Bagacay won over Barangay Bajumpadan, 74-63 in their knockout battle for third place.

City sports officer Jose Guirit said corporate sponsors donated the trophies and medals for the Mythical Five and the plaque for the most valuable player, was from the Sports and Youth Development Office.

The awarding ceremony was attended by city administrator Dominador Dumalag Jr., provincial sports coordinator Buddy Ravello and Edward Cauilan of a sponsoring company.

Meanwhile, in volleyball, Barangay Banilad grabbed the crown against Taclobo.

Most valuable player was Allan Paul Alvares of Baranagy Banilad in the boys category, and a volleybelle from Barangay Calindagan, in the girls category.

Meanwhile, Guirit said the winners of the month-long Palaro ng Bayan will compose the team for Dumaguete in basketball and volleyball during for the provincial elimination for the forthcoming Visayas Olympic competition.

The  elimination is  currently ongoing  at  the Lamberto Macias  Sports Complex at the Capitol area, Dumaguete  City.*MA
