Carpenter meted life
for selling drugs

A carpenter was sentenced to be jailed for life by a Regional Trial Court judge yesterday for selling shabu in Bacolod City.
Melchor Rubin was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating Section 5 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and was sentenced to life imprisonment RTC Branch 53 Judge Pepito Gellada.
Gellada also ordered Rubin to pay a P500,000 fine for the 4.43 grams of shabu he had sold to police officers during a buy-bust operation in Purok Sigay, Brgy. 2, Bacolod in May 2003.

Soldiers to get housing

Houses for homeless soldiers assigned in Negros Occidental will soon to be constructed by Army engineers at the military reservation area in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia.
Lt. Col. Noel Detoito, commander of the Army’s 542nd Engineering Construction Battalion, yesterday said they will be constructing the 150 housing units for Army soldiers under the “bayanihan system” in a 4.7 hectare military reservation area.
Detoito said the P5 million of the P12 million housing project will be financed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Savings and Loans Incorporated..   |

Attempt of Bago man to
jump off roof foiled

A carpenter was arrested by cops after he caused a commotion when he tried to jump off the roof of a church in Bacolod City yesterday, the police said.
Amado Vicera, 37, a carpenter from Dulao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, was cornered by police officers and firemen after almost 30 minutes of negotiations when he got up on the roof of the Sum-ag parish church in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod, at about 5:30 p.m., SPO1 Arnold Vasquez of Police Station 9, said.
Vicera, who said he had separated from his wife, claimed his economic difficulties pushed him to attempt suicide.   |
