| Justice remains elusive for the family of Sgt. Diosdado Sudayan who was gunned down by New People’s Army assassins in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, two years ago.
Lt. Col. Franco Nemesio Gacal, 11th Infantry Battalion commander, yesterday said one of the gunmen, identified as Waldo Saguran, husband of Josephine Saguran, chairperson of Guihulngan-based Karapatan, is still at-large.
Gacal said the family of Sudayan did not press charges against Waldo for fear of their lives.
Sudayan was among the three intelligence operatives of the 11th Infantry Battalion gunned down in Manapla and Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, and Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, from 2004 to 2007, military records show.
Gacal said Josephine, wife of Waldo, sought reinforcement from Karapatan-Central Visayas headed by Vimarie Arcella to extend help to Lourdes Baloy, local leader of the Bayan-Muna partylist organization, who is now facing grave threats and extortion charges before the Guihulngan City Prosecutor’s Office.
He added that Saguran’s son, Mero, is an active member of platoon 2 of the Komiteng Tagapatuman- Central Negros.
The six farmer complainants charged that Baloy, aided by armed rebels, intimidated residents of Brgy. Linantuyan in Guihulngan City.
Bayan-Muna, in a statement it issued, slammed the military for filing charges against Baloy, which they called a plain harassment and intimidation.
They also charged the 11th IB of coercing six farmers to sign the documents needed in the filing of charges against Baloy.*GPB
