USLS goes for third win
in COC football tourney
BY NIDA BUENAFE

Prevailing over Central Philippine University and University of Mindanao in their previous encounters, University of St. La Salle guns for its third win today when it takes on Foundation University in the 8 a.m. match of the 1st Carlos O. Cojuangco National Collegiate Football Invitational at the Pana-ad football pitch.

With six points stocked under its name for the two wins, drubbing CPU 4-1 Monday and stopping UM 2-1 the next day, host squad leads the four-team cast tournament and has one foot inside the championship door. Should it prevail over the Foundation University, USLS will become the first team to qualify in the finals scheduled on Saturday.

With RP team members Arnie Pasinabo and Floriano Pasilan in its lineup plus a territory advantage against FU, USLS will be going out there today hoping to end the single-round robin elimination with an unblemished record.

But FU will prove to be a good match for the La Salle team as coach Andy Mananquil said they have made their preparations and the team is ready to take on USLS.

While the presence and experience of Pasilan and Pasinabo is a big advantage for USLS, Mananquil said his team is well-prepared.

On the other hand, UM committed to give its best in the 4 p.m. game against Central Philippine University.

Coach Stanley Cañete said it will be a big blow to his team’s pride if they will go home without a single win to their credit.

Just as determine to score a victory in the tournament is coach Joseph Sengaya’s CPU squad who forged a scoreless draw against FU in Tuesday’s last game.

The tournament offers P100,000 cash prize, two computer sets with monitor, a printer, and a trophy to the champion while the first runner-up gets P53,500 cash, a computer with monitor and printer.

The tournament, organized by the Negros Occidental Football Association and the COC Foundation, is designed to give college players, coaches, and referees a venue to hone their skills.*NAB
