The Bacolod Caring Circle and Fellowship held Tuesday its 2nd Founding Anniversary, in Bacolod City, a press release from the congregation said.

It also held baptism rites at the Bacolod Pavillon swimming pool and initiated its first mass wedding for couples from SP Village, Brgy. 35 and Boulevard officiated by Senior Pastor Rev. Joel Seguiro.

The anniversary coincided with the launching of the Dawis Kinderhome, Inc.’s Fides Christian Academy and the 75th birthday of a member, Colombia Canuel, the press release said.

It added that the BCCF began with a group of Christians on May 14, 2006, composed of 43 adults and children from the Seguiro, Enabe, Cabrillos and Mislang families, Marilou Duller and Dawis Kinderhome, Inc. parents and their children with the first pastor, Rev. Joel Seguiro Sr.

Lacson St. designation
as tourism strip okayed

A resolution requesting the mayor through the Tourism and Cultural Development Council and Bacolod City Tourism Office to designate Lacson Street in Bacolod City as tourism strip and an alternative activity area during city festivals was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday.

The resolution says street revelries commemorating MassKara and BacoLaodiat festivals and the first 2007 Electric MassKara were held at Lacson Street and received positive and encouraging feedbacks from the general public and business sector as to its economic and aesthetic viability and feasibility.

It says there is a need to relocate and identify some streets in the city, such as Lacson Street, during celebrations in order to decongest the public plaza and surrounding streets and not disturb religious services and ceremonies at the San Sebastian Cathedral.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Homer Bais, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism and Local and International Cooperation.*CGS

Enrollment at BCC
expected to increase

Bacolod City Administrator Roger Balo yesterday said enrollment at the Bacolod City College is expected to increase by 25 to 30 percent due to the implementation of tuition fee increases by private schools this school year.

Balo said the tuition fee of BCC is only P30 per unit. However, their problem is a shortage of classrooms, he said.

He said he has coordinated with the Bacolod City National High School for the temporary use of 15 classrooms. But these will only be available after 5 p.m, he said.

Balo said they are also finalizing an agreement with the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos for the temporary use of six classrooms at the Ezekiel Moreno Training Center in Brgy. Handumanan, which can accommodate 240 students.

Balo said there are only 17 available classrooms of the BCC in Taculing and in Sum-ag and they need about 28 more. One option is to temporarily use some of the rooms of the City Engineer’s Office and City Health Office once these transfer to the new government center, he said.

Meanwhile, Balo said the BCC will offer a ladderized program for some courses starting June which was approved by the board of trustees after being studied for almost a year. For example, he said the program in B.S. Office Administration has been changed to Bachelor of Science in Information System. They want to focus on the information and communication technology since this is now the demand of the employment sector, he added.

Under the ladderized system, Balo said a first year student for B.S. in Industrial Technology is expected to acquire skills in painting, masonry, carpentry, refrigeration, automotive, electronics, etc. A second year student can already get an accredited national certificate in Technical Education and Skills Development Authority as a civil, mechanical or electronics/electrical technician, he said.

On the other hand, Balo said he will propose to Mayor Evelio Leonardia the creation of a BCC softball team because of 12 members of the Little League softball team are enrolled at the BCC. He said the team became champion during a softball tournament in Kirkland Washington, U.S.A. Despite being offered scholarships by some universities in Manila, they opted to enroll at the BCC as scholars of the Public Employment and Services Office, he said.

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Mayor Goldwyn NIfras said the request for the reopening of the old Bacolod Airport and the request for an additional P10 million funding for the floodway project in Brgy. Banago will be among the concerns the mayor will bring to the attention of the President during her visit to the city today.*CGS
