| The Mabinay Rural Health Unit 1 had the highest malnutrition rate among the towns of Negros Oriental, the Integrated Provincial Health Office said, citing the results of the recent Operation Timbang conducted January to March last year.
Mabinay had a 22.1 malnutrition rate, followed by Vallehermoso - 18.4 and Manjuyod - 18.1.
Gilda Torres of the IPHO said Mabinay has two RHUs due to the large population of school children. Other local government units with two RHUs are Tanjay City and Guihulngan.
The town that recorded the lowest malnutrition rate was Dauin with a rate of 3.2.
Among the cities, Canlaon had the highest malnutrition rate with 11.7, followed by Bayawan City - 10.3 and Tanjay RHU I, 10.
Dumaguete City ranked fourth with a malnutrition rate of 6.4. Tanjay RHU 2 got the lowest rate at 4.2.
A total of 181,182 children in the province aged zero to 71 months were weighed during the Operation Timbang. This year’s results are expected to be completed in June, in time for the Nutrition Month celebration, Torres said.*RG
