| More than 150 elderly residents from different barangays in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, were given free medical treatment sponsored by the city government, recently, a Philippine Information Agency press release said.
Beneficiaries availed of medical, laboratory, and eye examinations in a health mission initiated by Mayor Demie John Honrado.
Ophthalmologist Rolando Lee of the Riverside Medical Center attended to those who have eye ailments as City Health Officer Erwina Jalandoni and Dr. Rommel Sabig conducted the medical examinations, the press release said.
The medical team also rendered blood typing, urinalysis, hemoglobin, and sugar testing. Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. occ., 4th District) donated vitamin supplements.
CHO staff, midwives and barangay health workers assisted in the activity, the press release added.*

1st Balbagan Festival held
Binalbagan, Negros Occidental recently held its 1st Balbagan Festival and the 436th Annual Fiesta, a press release from the town said.
Among the highlights were the Street Party featuring two bands, grand fireworks display sponsored by the Office of Mayor Alejandro Mirasol, and the 1st Balbagan Street Dance Competition participated in by 15 barangays, held at the Mayor Pedro T. Yulo III Sports and Cultural Center
Contest choreographers underwent a preliminary workshop from members of the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts led by Rudy Reveche.
Participating barangays were clad in costumes and snake icons made from recycled materials in line with the Solid Waste Management campaign of the town, the press release said.
To educate children about snakes, a live python was featured at the town plaza. Other activities were a Diana and Procession, the Gintong Tinig Star Search (Open Category), an Agro Fair, the 1st Alejandro Y. Mirasol BMX Bike Motorade, a Social Welfare Day, Employees’ Night, Educators’ Day, Face Painting, SK Day, a concert party by the Market Vendors’ Association and a Dance Showdown of Pop and Latin Dances, the press release added.*

Exhibit to open at UNO-R
The Art Association of Bacolod – Negros will hold a group painting exhibit entitled “Simbalay – House of God, Home of the Poor” at the lobby of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City from 4 p.m. today until June 10, a press release from organizers said.
The exhibit is a tribute to the San Sebastian Cathedral in celebration of the 75th year of the Diocese of Bacolod, with Bishop Vicente Navarra and Fr. Felix Pasquin as guests of honor.
It will feature the works of Negros artists Bopep Montinola, Bogie Alvarado, Victor Lopez, Jr., Dave Palanca, Bro. Jaazeal Jakosalem, Dolly Gatuslao, Joan Mocorro, Jason Tolentino, Paul Bautista, Harvey Salhay, Don Barbasa, Michael Sernal, Giovanie Demasu-ay, Robert De Aro, Jeffrey Montaño, Marlon Domino, Christian Claur, Jose Inocencio, Bea Mocorro, Marjorie Ann Angodung, Telok Lamis, Rusty Quiatchon, Mark Maquimay, Leah Remolado and Nunelucio Alvarado, the press release said.
Meanwhile, Chin Guanzon will hold a solo exhibit called “Philippine Galaxy” at Moravia Gallery Bar at the upper floor of Italia Restaurant beside the Riverside Medical Center on June 9 to July 12, in the city.
Recent works of PG Zoluaga dubbed “Behind Bars” are also on exhibit at the Moravia Gallery Bar until June 12, the press release added.*

A jobs fair will be hosted by the 888 China Town Square at corner Cottage Road and Gatuslao streets, Bacolod City at 10 a.m. Friday, a press release from the mall said.
