cause P5M loss

Close to P5 million in agricultural crops, fisheries, livestock and poultry was lost in the floods that hit Negros Occidental this week, Gov. Isidro Zayco said he was informed yesterday.

Zayco said local governments can declare states of calamity if damage in their towns and cities are severe so they can provide assistance to their affected constituents.

Palay loss in San Enrique was P509,748, Ilog -- P225,509, EB Magalona -- P225,579, Vallladolid – P1,429,947, Sipalay – P25,866, and Murcia – P8,775, Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan reported.

Also lost in Sipalay were corn – P109,200 and vegetables – P32,500.

Fishery losses were, in Pontevedra – P999,000, Valladolid – P1,050,000 and Himamaylan – P30,000, Tabanan said.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said livestock and poultry losses in Victorias – P69,850, Kabankalan – P150,000 and Pontevedra – P75,000 for a total P294,850.*CPG
