AFC CHALLENGE CUP
RP XI battles Bhutan today

ILOILO CITY – The Philippines takes on Bhutan today, hoping to put in as many goals as possible in the final day of Group B qualifying matches in the AFC Challenge Cup at the Barotac Nuevo Football Plaza.

The Filipinos --- level on points but behind on goal difference against defending champion Tajikistan --- go into the 3:30 p.m. match knowing that a draw won't be enough for them to clinch a spot in the main tournament, unless Brunei beats Tajikistan at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

"We want to put our fate in our own hands," national coach Norman Fegidero said. "We'll try to score as many as possible but our priority is to win".

West Negros University guns for a record-setting performance today when it clashes against JPV/Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod for Game 2 of its best-of-three titular showdown in the 2008 Negros Basketball Association’s Mayor’s Cup Summer Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung gym.

Undefeated in the eliminations, the Mustangs cruised to an easy victory over Marwin Pawnshop in the semifinals and patiently waited from the sidelines as the JPV/CSA-B wrestled with Province of Negros Occidental for the second finals berth.

The scenario started to change, however, in Thursday’s Game 1 as JPV came out strong and challenged the Mustangs’ dominance in every department, though losing at the end with a heartbreaking 71-70 final score.

Air21 beats
Coca-Cola in PBA

Three-time slam dunk king KG Canaleta showed yesterday the way things are done when the breaks of the game are on your side, firing 19 points in the fourth period to bring Coca-Cola Tigers down, 104-86, in the Smart-PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

The loss, second consecutive for the Tigers after yielding 99-91 to Alaska Aces Wednesday, foiled Coca-Cola’s attempt to regain the second spot in the standings dropping to third place behind Talk ‘N Text with its 6-4 win-loss record while the Express now carries a 5-4 card.

The win was a boost to Air21’s pride as they swept the Tigers in their conference eliminations showdown following a 102-95 win in their first meeting last April 13.
