Two men lost cash and valuables to still unidentified robbers at the downtown area of Bacolod City yesterday and Thursday night, police reports said.
Rosendo Jandumon, 34, of Crossing Punta Taytay, Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod, reported to Police Station 1 that one of two unidentified men on a motorcycle grabbed his pouch with P17,500 in cash, and a Nokia N92 cellphone worth P18,000, at San Sebastian Street, at about 3 a.m. yesterday.

6 nabbed for
drugs, gambling
Six persons were arrested for alleged drugs and illegal gambling violations in Bacolod City yesterday and Thursday, the police said.
Edwin Gemena, 42, Tudines Alejandria, 23, and Michelle Lachica, 19, all of Purok Tahong, Brgy 2, Bacolod, were nabbed by Police Station 2 members led by Senior Inspector Luisito Acebuche, at about 1:40 p.m. yesterday, PO1 Sergio Sisles said.
Also arrested were Jenny Rose Beltran, 25, of Zone 5, Talisay, Negros Occidental, and Jennifer Delos Reyes, 42, of Brgy. Alijis, in the city, he added.
Confiscated from them were playing cards, nine lighters, four tooters, one knife, one pair of scissors, empty plastic sachets, and plastic containers with residue of suspected shabu, Sisles said.
Acebuche said the women were nabbed while allegedly playing an illegal card game in Purok Tahong while the two men, he said, were caught in the act of using suspected shabu.
The suspects were brought to Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory to undergo drug tests, Acebuche said.
Meanwhile, Neil Sitjar, 44, of Purok Magnolia, Brgy. 7, Bacolod, was arrested by Acebuche’s group at B.S. Aquino Drive, Brgy. 5, at about 7 p.m. Thursday for marijuana, police records showed.
Acebuche said they initially apprehended Sitjar after receiving a complaint that a person under the influence of liquor and armed with a knife, was causing alarm among the residents.
A transparent plastic container with suspected dried marijuana leaves was found when the metal container recovered from Sitjar when he was checked at the station later, he added.
If rolled into cigarets the bundle would make about 12 pieces of cigarets, Acebuche said.
Sitjar, a trisikad driver, said one of his passengers gave it to him as payment for his fare.
“Since he had no money with him, he gave it to me as payment,” he explained.
The suspected prohibited items were sent to PNP Crime Laboratory for examination, Acebuche said.
Aside from the alarm and scandal complaint against him, Sitjar may also be charged with violation of Section 11 of Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, if the leaves test positive for marijuana, he added.*KGM

11 barkers rounded up
Eleven more “barkers” or passenger callers were rounded up in Bacolod City Thursday as the police continue its crackdown on them.
Nabbed were Jerry Douglas, 40, Rafael Tambanillo, 57, Marcris Fegerez, Emmanuel Gustilo, 21, Giovani Teloro, 35, Delmar Gaudan, 38, Rafael Antonio, 45, Rufino, Alit, 36, Vicente Galvan, 40, Norberto Gonzales, 49, and Jun Palonpon, 31, police records showed.
They were apprehended by enforcers from the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, led by Traffic Management Unit chief, Senior Inspector Levy Pangue, near restaurants, malls, and hospitals, at the city’s downtown area, and were endorsed to Police Station 1 at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
Chief Inspector Noel Manaay, Police Station 1 commander, said that the 11 were released yesterday morning after their 12-hour detention period lapsed.
“Barking” or prodding passengers to ride in public utility vehicles and exacting “commissions” from drivers is prohibited under Bacolod City Ordinance no. 885, police records showed.
Jeepney drivers have complained against the barkers who they said, harass and threaten them if they do not give money to them.
The TMU and the BTAO started the crackdown on barkers last week and have rounded up 50 of them from different areas of the city.
The barkers have called on the city government to give them alternative livelihood programs so they could stop their illegal practice.
Pangue, however, said they will continue to implement the law and will file charges for violation of the city ordinance under the “regular filing” scheme against first time offenders, while those who are repeatedly apprehended will be charged under the inquest procedure for prolonged detention periods, he said.*PP
