ALU-TUCP eyes to
dropping of charges vs. PNP

The Associated Labor Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines  is expected to announce the withdrawal of the cases it filed against the Philippine National Police, as an offshoot of the recent strike at the port of Dumaguete City.

Provincial coordinator Felizardo Calimpong of the ALU-TUCP said the decision will be made by their national president, Democrito Mendoza.

Calimpong said he understands the predicament of the police whose task was merely to assist other law enforcement agencies assigned in the port zone, to maintain peace and order.

BAYAN leader facing
extortion, threats raps

Farmers charged a local leader of the Bayan-Muna party-list group for extortion and grave threats yesterday before the Guihulngan Police Station in Negros Oriental.

Lt. Col. Franco Nemesio Gacal, 11th Infantry Battalion commander, identified those charged by the farmers who are residents of Brgy. Linantuyan, as Lourdes Baloy, Bayan Muna partylist leader and concurrent chairperson of the Paghiliusa sa Mangunguma sa Barangay Linantuyan.

The farmer-complainants had been reported earlier by the Karapatan-Negros to have been taken by the 11th IB soldiers.

Valencia declares hinterland
village under state of calamity

Valencia in Negros Oriental has declared a hinterland barangay there under a state of calamity after the landslide Tuesday that displaced at least 17 families.

The Sangguniang Bayan declared Brgy. Caidiocan Thursday under a state of calamity, as the government began relief and rehabilitation of areas affected by the landslide.

Victims are temporarily housed at a day care center and barangay hall while some were taken in by their relatives.
