| Rep. Ignacio Arroyo Jr. (Neg Occ., 5th District) and Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday said they were saddened by the death of former Moises Padilla Mayor Jose “Joegar” Garcia Jr. who, they said, had served his town well for many years as a public official.
Garcia, whose father before him was also mayor of Moises Padilla, had served the town as councilor, vice mayor and mayor.
“My family and I extend our deepest sympathy to the family of former Mayor Jose Garcia whose demise will surely have great impact especially on the lives of the people of Magallon,” Arroyo said.
“Mayor Joegar had dedicated more than half of his life serving his beloved hometown. The people of Magallon did not only lose a leader but a father, a friend and an inspiration,” he said.
“The legacy he left behind will long be remembered by the people whom he had served with dedication and passion. As we mourn his death, may his life serve as an inspiration for the present and even future leaders of Magallon,” Arroyo added.
Zayco also said he was saddened by the death of Garcia who had served Moises Padilla for many years from councilor to mayor, and was extending his condolences to his family.
His body was found with a gunshot wound that entered through his mouth and exited from the head in his bedroom at his house in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.
The police said their investigation indicates that he committed suicide as no foul play was found at the scene of the crime, Chief Inspector Santiago Rapiz, Police Precinct 4, chief said.
However, Rapiz said the case will not be closed until the results of the paraffin test on the remains of the former mayor and a ballistics report is completed.*CPG
