Macias seeking policies on
carbon credit scheme

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Negros Oriental Gov. Emilio Macias II said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources that the agency should prepare policies and guidelines for local government units, who wish to participate in the international carbon credit scheme.

Macias suggested this to DENR Assistant Secretary Jayjay Yambao, who was in the province Thursday and had called on the governor at Capitol.

At the meeting, Macias expressed his interest in finding developed partner-countries that would like to trade carbon credits with less-developed nations.

Heritage month marked
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Negros Oriental is joining the closing activities of the heritage month celebration in support of efforts to preserve the heritage of the province.

The activities were presented to the league headed by Mayor Reynaldo Tuanda of Jimalalud in the presence of Gov. Emilio Macias II recently.

The three-day culmination program will start with a press conference in the morning of May 29 at Lake Balanan, Siaton, followed by opening of booths at 5 p.m. at the Sidlakan Negros showroom in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City where an exhibit of children’s works will be exhibited.

Shops chided for requiring
staff to stand long hours

Cotabato Rep. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza has asked the House committee on labor and employment to inquire into the enforcement of the Labor Code provision that requires shops to provide seats for their mostly female sales attendants, a press release from her office said.

She said Article 132 of the Labor Code clearly requires department stores, supermarkets and other retailers to provide seats for sales personnel, to be used during working hours, as long as they could still efficiently perform their duties.

She said this law is meant to protect the mostly female workers in retail trade and other industries from the health risks of prolonged standing at work, the press release said.
