| Dumaguete City police chief, Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag, said yesterday that they are enforcing the Operation “Balik-Eskwela” by urging students to take extra precautions as school opens by not giving criminals an opportunity to strike.
Police Theft and Robbery Section chief, Insp. Rogelio Pineda, advised students and the public to avoid walking in dark alleys, refrain from using mobile phones while standing along the road, or on board motorcycles, and for students to be with companions in going to school, to avoid snatchings.
He also called on the public to immediately report the presence of suspicious-looking individuals, and to report to the police when they see a crime committed, or about to be committed.
Meanwhile, the interim schools division in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental was inaugurated yesterday, with the installation of its first division superintendent, Erwin Lagora, who is from Bohol province.
The ceremony was attended by Education Undersecretary Ramon Bacani, local Department of Education officials and provincial government leaders.
Negros Oriental Division of Schools Supt. Licerio Napao said the interim schools division in Guihulngan will work separately from the province, like the DepEd divisions in the cities of Tanjay, Bais, Bayawan and Dumaguete.*JG
