Police nab suspected
Bacolod drug peddler

BY GILBERT BAYORAN & PATRICK PANGILINAN

A suspected drug peddler spent Mother’s Day in jail yesterday after she was arrested when a search in her house in Bacolod City Saturday night yielded suspected shabu, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said.

Mary Rose Celiz, alias Rose Celiz, 32, was apprehended by members of the PDEA and the National Bureau of Investigation led by Inspector Joemarie Occeño and Mamerto Cortez, at her house in Purok Sigay, Brgy. 2, Bacolod, at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, a PDEA report showed.

Confiscated from Celiz were 23 elongated sachets and another small sachet of suspected shabu, weighing about 5.75 grams, and P1,200 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of prohibited drugs, the report said.

The seized suspected drugs were turned over to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for examination, it added.

Celiz, who was detained at Police Station 2 as of yesterday, said she has been selling the illegal substances to support her four children.

She added that she was processing the posting of the bail through a surety outfit.

The operation on her house was conducted by virtue of a search warrant issued by Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 2 Judge Lorna Demonteverde for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, PDEA and PNP records showed.

Brgy. 2 chairman, Richard Barbers, Kagawads Jose Rogacion and Suchel Canlas, and a television crew witnessed the search, the PDEA report said.*GPB/PP
