GILBERT BAYORAN

Fifteen policemen assigned in Western Visayas have been suspended without pay effective May 1, for absence-without-leave and for inefficiency, police records show.

Seven of the policemen are assigned in Negros Occidental. Suspended for 90 days were Police Officers 1 Abraham Golingan and Judesses Catalogo, both members of the Sipalay City Police Station, and PO1 Cesar Espinosa of the Pulupandan Police Station.

Suspended for 15 days were SPO2 Charlie Gayatao, SPO2 Vicente Garino, PO2 Roberto Arrazola and PO1 James Barredo.

The eight others are assigned in Iloilo.

Region 6 police director Isagani Cuevas ordered the recall of the firearms, badges and PNP identification cards of 15 policemen.

Police Officer 1 Jade Gimay who was also caught in the act of indiscriminate firing two weeks ago, was also relieved from the La Castellana Police Station, and transferred to Pontevedra Police Station, police records also showed. He is now being investigated by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

Cuevas also warned policemen against seeking patronage for re-assignments and promotion, which he said is a violation of the PNP Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standard.

Cuevas said he has observed that some PNP personnel, especially those assigned at the 6th Regional Mobile Group, are seeking assistance from politicians for re-assignments.

The PNP Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standard prohibits solicitation of influence or recommendations from politicians, government officials, among others, for their promotion or re-assignments.*GPB
