Marwin eliminates USLS,
faces WNU in NBA semis

Andrew Deles scored 31 points as Marwin Pawnshop eliminated University of St. La Salle in a come-from-behind win last night, 79-76, in their quarterfinals showdown to earn the right of facing top qualifier West Negros University in the semifinals of the 2008 Negros Basketball Association Mayor’s Cup Summer Basketball Tournament at the Tay Tung gym.

Trailing the Stingers by eight points, 59-67, going into the final quarter of the game, Deles took charge of Marwin’s offense scoring 10 of the 20 points of his team in the final minutes while USLS only made 9 points in contrast to its 25-point third quarter surge.

Backing up Deles in the scoring department for Marwin were Erson Isuga with 15 points and Sammy Belangel who finished the game with 9 markers.

Topscoring for USLS losing campaign was Earl Doromal with 17 points while Elven Diaz contributed 16 and Marloni Gonzalez 10 points.

In the first quarterfinals matchup, Mark Ramos’ buzzer beater shot against Coverdale Resort secured for the Province of Negros Occidental a semifinals duel against JPV/Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod.

Coverdale almost had the game in its clutches, leading by a half-point, 95-94, with a second remaining in the game clock but Ramos got away from his defender to sink the game-winning shot.

Arnold Laureño led the scorers for the Province with 19 points while Marlon Talatala delivered 16 and Rex Bayer chipped in 11.

Coverdale’s heartbreaking loss got 21 points from Joe Strike while Boboy Rebadonia registered 19 and Jefroks Buñol 15 points.

Semifinals game between Province of Negros Occidental and JPV/CSA-B will be at 6 p.m. tomorrow while WNU clashes against Marwin Pawnshop at 7:45 p.m.*NAB
