| Gov. Emilio Macias II said he is supporting the development of the bamboo industry in Negros Oriental after the signing of an agreement between a Belgian investor and the Buglas Bamboo Institute for the building of a bamboo factory.
The province has an ample supply of bamboo, especially in the hinterland barangays and along the riverbanks of some of its local government units.
Macias said the foreign investor will not only offer more jobs for Negrenses but also give more publicity to Negros Oriental.
The GL Peal of the Orient is a Belgian based company that holds office in Cebu City and exports bamboo and rattan-made products to the United States and Europe.
The Buglas Bamboo Institute-made products are known for its world-class quality, unique designs and elegance.
Chief executive officer of GL Pearl Company George Lejeune said the agreement between Buglas Bamboo and his company was a realization of their long delayed plans of working with the world-class bamboo product makers.
Under the agreement, Buglas Bamboo will produce different products while the GL Pearl will take charge of the marketing of the finished ones.
Lejeune said their company is confident that they can easily market the products because of their quality. Among the most ordered products are furniture and bamboo shades treated against infestation by insects like termites, he added.
The bamboo factory will be established in Barangay Maayong-Tubig in Dauin, Negros Oriental. Chairman Frans Kleine Koerkamp of the Buglas Bamboo Institute said the establishment of a factory will give job opportunities to the residents of Maayong-tubig.*MA
