Civilian volunteers get aid
BY RENE GENOVE

Board Member Mariant Villegas gave financial support to the officers of the Candau-ay Civilian Volunteers Organization who were inducted Sunday in Dumaguete City, for the purpose of purchasing security equipment and for training.

The check was received by the chairman, Genaro Turco, Alejandro  Silangan – vice chairman, Gleen Tubog – secretary, Simplicio Demecillo – treasurer, and Jaime Abillar – auditor.

Present at their induction were Councilors Chiquiting Sagarbarria and Alan Cordova, and city chief of police Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag.

Villegas said the city has been relatively peaceful, and it will host a number of cultural events, including the International Dance Congress next year.

Villegas said the efforts of the civilian volunteers are laudable because the government lacks manpower in safeguarding peace and order in the locality, and they do their job without compensation.

Cabanag said he wants to maintain the peace and order situation of the city by deploying more policemen near the city center, to further reduce petty crimes such as snatching. Civilian volunteers may help maintain peace and order in far-flung barangays of Dumaguete, he added.*RG
