‘PNOC buffer zone entry to
minimize power outage’

BY RENE GENOVE

Forty-seven high school scholars from various geothermal sites of the Philippine National Oil Corporation-Energy Development Corporation completed their 10-day annual Energy Camp at Southern Negros Geothermal production Field in Negros Oriental, recently.

Twelve student campers came from EDC’s host community schools in the host province while 10 scholars and eight children of PNOC-EDC employees were from Negros Occidental where the company has both a geothermal field and power plant, and another eight from the North Cotabato geothermal site.

A project of the PBOC-EDC president, Paul Aquino, the energy camp aimed at fostering good values, friendship and instilling important lessons through fun-filled activities where campers hurdled a battery of physical and mental challenges.

Aquino said the camp also served as a treat to the participants, a welcome break after a year of scholastic achievements.

On its fifth year now, the camp is a summer recreational event for students who were immersed in a flurry of activities—treks through the forest, lessons in martial arts, rappelling and even ballroom dancing.

This year’s energy camp graduation rite was witnessed by Ambassador Rubens Anna Fedele of Italy, Ambassador Antonio del Rosario Sr., Philippine Consulate of Iceland, CDA Luis Palma, Chile Charge de’Affaires and officials of the DFA.*RG
