‘Police continuing drive
vs. illegal numbers game’

BY MARICAR ARANAS

The 705th Police Provincial  Mobile Group in Negros Oriental  has  recorded  at  least nine positive  operations  against the  illegal  numbers   game known  as  “swertres”, during  the   first  quarter  of   2008, its head, Senior Insp. Julius  Muñez, said yesterday.

He said operations were conducted in different parts of the province, majority of them through the information and cooperation extended by concerned citizens.

Muñez  said  they continue  to  monitor  all  areas  reportedly infiltrated  by illegal  gambling. He clarified, though, their operation is lower compared to the previous months.

Operators were displaying their operations in  public, but after the series of apprehensions, they are now mobile and keep transferring places, he added.

Muñez also denied allegations that they stopped their campaign against illegal numbers game operations.  All their operations are carefully done without violations of the law and following the proper procedures, Muñez said.

He added that the law should be enforced fairly to the suspects, so that they will realize that law enforcers are respecting it.

Muñez said since the 705th PMG covers the entire province, they cannot also sacrifice other operations and concerns for swertres alone. He assured the public that they will continue monitoring illegal gambling operations.*MA
