organic rice farming

Farmers from two barangays in Bacolod City will adopt the Masipag  organic rice farming technology introduced by the Federation of Free Farmers after a seminar on FREEFARM today and tomorrow, the FFF said in a press release.

The two groups are the Ilawod Small Farmers Association headed by Ramon Jarme in Brgy. Cabug and the Pahanocoy-Cabug Rice and Vegetable Growers Association, headed by Romeo Matti in Brgy. Pahanocoy.

P.9M aid from DOLE

Five towns in Iloilo and Capiz received a total of P918,147 in checks from the Department of Labor and Employment 6  under its Adjustment Measures Program that provides a package of assistance and other form of intervention as a means of helping workers and companies cope with economic and social disruptions.

The recipients were Iloilo towns, Badiangan, P226,996; Leganes, P217,380; and Santa Barbara, P227,221; Ivisan Capiz, P246,550; and New Washington, Aklan,  P224,420.

Inflation hits
three-year high in April

MANILA - Surging food and energy prices in the Philippines pushed the inflation rate in April to 8.3 percent, the highest level in three years, the government said yesterday.

The National Statistics Office said "all the commodity groups at the national level continued to record higher annual price increases," with the food sector alone incurring a 12 percent inflation rate.

The April 2008 figure was the highest inflation rate recorded since May 2005 when inflation hit 8.5 percent, it said in a statement.
