Sidney Chua scored 20 points while Ritchie Militante delivered 19 as JSY Transport notched its first win at the expense of Sweet Crystal, 91-83, in their recent tussle in Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung gym.

Posting a two-digit lead in the first quarter behind Chua’s inspired performance, the transport guys almost squandered their advantage as Frederick Ong and Ricky Chua combined forces for Sweet Crystal to even the score at 48-all at halftime.

In the third quarter, JSY exploited its height advantage and with Militante displaying his all-around game, led a 35-13 third quarter breakaway to restore the lead on their side.

Another Negrense is making a name in the go-kart world with 10-year-old Basti Escalante outracing his older and more experienced rivals from Manila and Cebu to rule the Cebu Intersport Go-Kart Championship cadet division held Sunday in Cebu City.

Basti, who was accompanied by his uncle, Mayor Manuel Escalante of Manapla, topped the event and bagged the title.

“He is the only one from Negros Occidental who participated in the event and we are very proud of his achievement,” Mayor Escalante said.
