| A local airline company will be asked to explain why it should not be held liable for violating existing provisions on the issuance of receipts.
Via the electronic ticketing system, an airline passenger was told by the teller there is no need for a receipt. It was learned that the complainant was asking for an official receipt for the plane ticket she bought in Dumaguete because she wanted to participate in the BIR’s “premyo sa resibo” program.
The complainant identified as Parcela Baluyot, of Dumaguete City had referred her concerns with the City Legal Office and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
BIR officer Joe Senador, of the taxpayers division, said the BIR is conducting an investigation and verification of the complaint.
Senador said every establishment doing business is required to issue official receipts.
It was not clear if the electronic ticketing system falls within the scope of the E-Commerce law.*JG
