Thieves hit church,
house of preacher
BY
PATRICK PANGILINAN

A church and a pastor’s house were ransacked by still unidentified persons in Bacolod City during the weekend.

Reu Gaboro, 41, caretaker of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Royal Meadow’s in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod, discovered that unidentified thieves had broken into the place of worship at about 5 p.m. Friday, police reports said.

Investigation by Police Station 4 showed that the burglars had entered the place by destroying the grills and detaching five jalousie slats from a window.

Gaboro of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, told the police that they lost about P33,000 in video and audio equipment, an electric fan, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, and electrical wire, aside from important documents.

Rezia Mae Meningito, a worker at the United Church of Christ in the Philippines at San Antonio Street, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod, meanwhile, told Police Station 7 investigators that an unidentified man robbed her at the house of their pastor at about 5 p.m. Thursday.

Meningito was working alone at the preacher’s house when the man, who had earlier visited them supposedly to book a wedding, came back and asked if he could recharge his cellphone there.

She was surprised, however, when the man, whom she described as tall, dark, and with long hair, threatened her with a knife that he had apparently taken from the kitchen, PO1 Clark Cañon of Police Station 7, said.

Meningito told case investigator, PO2 Lyndon Ortonio, that the man tied her hands and feet and put her in the pastor’s bedroom while he rummaged through the house.

The thief went away with two cellphones, an MP4 player, and P4,700 in cash, Cañon said.*PP
