| The police are still facing a blank wall on the fatal shooting of a reveler at the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City late Thursday.
Gerald Arroyo, 25, was shot dead by a still unidentified person at the site of the Panaad sa Negros Festival in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod, about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, PO2 Evans Diaz of Police Station 7, said.
Arroyo, of Purok Kabukiran, Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod, was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital later, Diaz said.
He added that case investigator PO2 Lyndon Ortonio is following up the incident.
Arroyo’s companion said that they were on their way home when his friend was shot. He also said that they had earlier figured in a fistfight with unidentified men when he accidentally bumped one of them while they were dancing.
Arroyo’s mother, Maria Teresa, pleaded with the police to solve her son’s death and called on people who may have witnessed the shooting to help in the investigation.
Ronilo Arnaiz, who saw the incident, said that had police officers near the area immediately responded, they could have arrested Arroyo’s assailant.
Members of the Negros Occidental and Bacolod police offices and the Regional Mobile Group have been deployed to secure the eight-day festivities at the Panaad.
The police, however, said that they cannot oversee the movements of every visitor in the area.*PP
