| Four of the 10 boxing titles in the 2008 Panaad sa Negros Sports Festival were captured by Bacolod City as young boxers Joren Labordo, Alvin Sibugan, Jefferson Delgado, and Ronel Parcon won their championship assignments yesterday at the Cabana Area of the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Labordo beat La Castellana’s Rene Igmedio in the 32kgs and Sibugan prevailed over Cadiz City’s Melchor Fernandez in the 34 kgs. Delgado scored another winning performance in the 36 kgs against Cadiz’s Eric Hulleza to make it three-in-a-row for Bacolod City during the championship bouts.
Parcon outclassed Escalante’s Melvin Gumban in a referee-stopped-contest in the 48kgs to complete the four golden finish of the sluggers from the City of Smiles.
Falling behind Bacolod City with three gold medals was La Castellana with Glen Tupas dominating the 28kgs against Cadiz’s Cresan Paul Caballero; Gino Magno winning the 30kgs against Raygenald Flores, and Jonel Alfir beating Bacolod’s Philip Catapang in the 39kgs.
Escalante snared two gold medals in the championship round courtesy of John Mahinay in the 42kgs against Cadiz’s Arman Alpar and James Mahinay in the 45kgs against La Castellana’s Ronel Tupas.
Meanwhile, Jaylord Alonzo gave Cadiz its lone gold by dominating the 26kgs against Rambo Mingges of Cauayan.
Supervising the boxing events in this year’s Panaad sports festival is the Provincial Sports Office with Ma. Cecilia Oyos as boxing coordinator and Arnaldo Quiachon as tournament manager.*NAB
