CDM members lauded

Negros Oriental Police Provincial Director Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe yesterday commended what he called the exemplary efforts and cooperation of the 40-member Civil Disturbance Management Unit who completed their training recently.

Certificates of commendation were given to the members, and their trainers, Senior Insp. Reynaldo Lechico and Insp. Rogelio Pineda, at rites held at the PNP  Provincial  Headquarters  in Camp Fernandez   Agan-an, Sibulan.

The CDM  unit of Negros  Oriental  was  one of  the  contingents  during  the  CDM  competition  held  recently. A  group  of  evaluators  from  the PNP Regional  Office  in Cebu led  by Human  Resource Development  Officer Supt. Renato Dungan evaluated the group.

Teves files bill for
creation of PhilCereal

Rep. Henry Pryde Teves (NegOr, 3rd district) said he filed last week House Bill 3737, or an Act Establishing the Philippine Cereals Research, Development and Extension Institute.

Teves said the proposed measure primarily seeks the development of  the corn industry  in  the  country, considering that there is no  research  arm  for  it, unlike  rice  where  there  is  the Philippine Rice Institute.

He also said he  was  planning  to  present the bill creating the PhilCorn  exclusively  as  a research  arm  for  the  development  of  the  corn industry. .

‘Garbage problem
manageable’

Garbage disposal in the city will be manageable, as soon as the heavy equipment detailed to the Dumaguete City dumpsite becomes serviceable, Environment and Natural Resources officer Rolly Clamonte assured yesterday.

Clamontesaidthemountainsofgarbagedumpedattheroadsidein front of the city dumpsiteWednesday was just temporary, because thebulldozerwasstillunderrepair.

The spread of garbage was brought to the attention of Mayor Agustin Perdices by Barangay Candau-ay officials.
