‘UNA has no bet for
governor yet’

BY CARLA GOMEZ

The United Negros Alliance has not met to decide on its gubernatorial bet for 2010, Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr., UNA chairman said, yesterday.

Marañon said, it is too early to decide on that. He added that they are instead concentrating on setting up a provincial health insurance system to help Negrenses cope with rising medical costs.

Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco also denied rumors that a gubernatorial bet had been chosen, also saying it was too early to do so.

“I cannot honestly say it is not true,” he said.

Some people may be speculating, but we have not discussed politics yet because we have a lot of concerns that need to be implemented for our people in the province, Zayco said.

Rumors have been floated that UNA has chosen Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) to be its next gubernatorial bet for the province.

Among the potential gubernatorial bets being mentioned so far, aside from Ferrer, are Rep. Jose Carlos Lacson, Marañon Jr., Zayco and former Rep. Carlos Cojuangco.*CPG
