4 beauties
studying to be nurses

BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Four contestants vying for the Lin-ay sang Negros crown stressed that they have chosen to pursue a Nursing course, not just for monetary benefits but to serve those in need of care.

Valladolid bet Princesslyn Dignadice, Jemalin Grace Pastoral of Silay City, Kabankalan City’s Nella Ruth Peralta, and Dorielyn Ugbinada of Don Salvador Benedicto, all said that, more than the money, they have the passion to practise their craft and help heal wounds and refresh feelings.

Dignadice, 19, an incoming senior at the University of St. La Salle, said that practical reasons pushed her to study nursing, but she has grown to love her work and extend real care to people and also to her family members as she is the only one who has ventured into a medical field.

On the other hand, Pastoral, 19, who decided to deal with syringes instead of microphones and shifted from Broadcasting to Nursing at the Central Philippine University in Iloilo, said that, through her vocation, she believes that she could fulfill her purpose in life.

Kabankalan’s Peralta, 17, meanwhile, said that, aside from wanting to work overseas and support her family, she also wants to use her tending skills to take care of other people when she finishes her degree either at the La Consolacion College in Bacolod, or at the West Visayas State University in Iloilo.

A first year student at USLS, Ugbinada, 17, daughter to retired teachers, said that while she hopes to land a job in a foreign country to earn more, her struggles and sacrifices are, primarily, for her patients.*PP
