Bacolod City elementary boys’ team A board pushers edged off their rivals from La Carlota in the tie-break to win the title while their teammates in the girls’ category emerged on top of the heap to complete the City of Smiles’ sweep of the elementary chess team championship in the Panaad sa Negros Sports Festival.

With a similar 5.5 match points, the boys from Bacolod needed a tie break against La Carlota and scored 11 accumulated score to bag the crown. The girls however, were immediately declared champion after posting 4 points against closest rivals from Pontevedra who settled for silver.

Bronze medalists were Bacolod’s team C in the boys’ division and Escalante in girls’ category.

La Carlota redeemed itself in the high school girls, registering a total of 4 matchpoints to surge ahead of the pack while La Castellana got away with the silver with a half point against Bacolod in the tie break, registering 7 points against Bacolod’s 6.5.

In the individual chess events, Bacolod’ A also captured the gold in the championship game in Board 1 against Escalante while Board 2 figured an all-La Carlota matchup in the final round in the high school boys division.

In high school girls, Esalante A topped the Board 1 against La Carlota A while La Castellana A snared the gold in Board 2 against Bacolod A.*NAB
