Long distance runners
join Mambukal relay

Long distance runners from the cities of Cadiz, Bacolod, Silay, La Carlota, Victorias and Escalante will cover the 24.3-kilometer distance from Mambukal Resort in Murcia to Panaad Stadium today for this year’s edition of the Mambukal Team Relay, a centerpiece event of the 2008 Panaad sa Negros Sports Festival.

The first runner of every competing team will take off from Mambukal’s Tourist Lodge down to Purok 1, Brgy. Minoyan for the first 2.9-km of the relay then pass the baton to the second runner who will cover 3.7-km from Purok 1 to Hda. Lizares-Housing, Brgy. San Miguel.

Waiting for their turn in the relay in front of the Lopez Jaena Barangay Hall, the third runners will navigate a distance of 2.9-km to arrive in Barangay Caliban where the fourth runners will start the 3.1-km run going Murcia town proper.

Fifth runners will start their 2.9-km run in front of Murcia municipal hall to Dizon-Sayson Elementary School in Barangay Blumentritt where the sixth runners will be waiting.

From Blumentritt, the next batch of runners will cover 2.3-km to reach the crossroad going to Guanzon Coliseum where their teammates are waiting for the 3-km run going to Grandville Subdivision in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

The last runner will cover 2.7-km from Grandville to Panaad Stadium to complete the 24.3-km distance of the marathon.

Meanwhile, Himamaylan City scored a 1-2 finish in the boys category of the 5Km Run Panaad Challenge yesterday leaving Escalante City’s Jezrael Bayotas to pick up the bronze medal.

Darius Roquero won the gold with his 22:18.34 time while his fellow Himamaylan runner Ryan Hulleza registered 22:20.18 for the silver.

In the girls’ category, Bacolod City’s Mary Joy Caporas finished the race with a time of 27:32.63 to take the gold while Escalante City runners Melany Clamor and Marjorie Rosales cornered the silver and the bronze. Clamor timed 28:14.70 while Rosales posted a time 28:23.55.*NAB
