| La Consolacion Academy-Murcia and host University of St. La Salle captured two titles each at the close of the 18th NOVA-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Tournament at the USLS Covered Courts in Bacolod City yesterday.
LCA-Murcia topped the boys’ 14-Under tournament by smashing Queen of Peace School, 25-21, 25-23, a day after its boys’ 10-Under squad overcame St. Benilde School, 25-17, 25-23.
Khen Mark Dunton of LCA-M was named Most Valuable Player for the boys’ 14-Under division. His schoolmate, Ryan Christian Carias, was the top player in the boys’ 10-Under category.
La Salle seized the girls’ 14-Under title with an easy 25-15, 25-17 victory over Talisay City. The La Sallians earlier bagged the girls’ 12-Under title at the expense of Silay City, 25-23, 25-16.
Ma. Gizelle Jessica Tan was adjudged the MVP in the girls’ 14-Under division for spearheading La Salle’s victory. Ma. Arielle Estrañero of USLS was also honored MVP of the 12-Under tournament.
St. Joseph School-La Salle and La Carlota split the 16-Under titles with MVP Patty Jane Orendain leading the way for the southern Negros city’s 25-20, 25-16 triumph over Silay in the girls’ finals.
SJS-LS leaned on Jay De la Cruz to dispose Bacolod City National High School, 26-24, 25-18, in the finals.
Rafael Alunan Elementary School turned out to be the surprise package when it ruled the boys’ 12-Under division.
The Granada-based spikers capped their stirring campaign with a 25-16, 20-25, 25-19 win over La Salle.
St. Benilde School won the girls’ 10-Under crown Saturday, after a 25-20, 25-23 smashing of St. John’s Institute-A.
Winning third place in the boys’ 16-Under division was Mansilingan Christian Academy, which failed to nail a finals slot when it bowed to BCNHS, 19-25, 15-25.
NOHS came in third in the girls’ division with Silay dashing hopes of a championship appearance with a 25-8, 25-22 win.
NOHS also finished third in the boys’ 14-Under event, duplicating Silay’s ranking in the girls’ category.
SJI and La Carlota won third in the boys and girls’ 12-Under event, respectively, while two Queen of Peace School teams duplicated the feat in the 10-Under event.*CPT
