5 nabbed for theft

Five persons were nabbed for alleged participation in thefts in Bacolod City late Thursday and yesterday, the police said.

Eduard Vincent Montero, 45, of No. 41 Bugnay Street, Homesite, Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod, was endorsed to Police Station 3 by Robinsons Place security chief, Virgelio Geollege, and security guard Cristomar Pabulanga, at about 12:40 p.m. yesterday, police records show.

Montero was caught in the act of opening the Eagle pick-up of Ma. Cristina Cotelo of No. 1592 Calamansi Street, Capitol Heights Subdivision, Bacolod, at the front parking lot of Robinsons, case investigator, PO1 Donnie Garcia, said.

Recovered from Montero were assorted keys, which are suspected of using to open vehicles before his arrest, Garcia said.

Montero denied opening Cotelo’s vehicle, claiming he was about to get his cellphone from his pick-up at the parking lot when he was apprehended. He, however, admitted that he had served time at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod, in 1997.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Sendon, 18, of Purok Langis, Brgy. Banago, Bacolod, was nabbed by Police Station 3 members led by SPO1 Manuel Olis while he and his companion, Ranjulie Billon, were cutting electric wires from the annex building of Lopue’s Mandalagan, at about 3 a.m. yesterday, police reports said.

Recovered from Sendon were a pair of pliers, an electric saw, and 50 kilos of wires, while Billon managed to escape, police records show.

Sendon said it was Billon who cut the wires and that he just acted as lookout.

He said he knew what they were doing was illegal but he went with Billon to make money for his school expenses and to help his family.

In another theft case, Isaiah Acebuque, 23, Leonard Balinday, 28, and Francisco Dinglasan, 24, were nabbed by Police Station 2 members led by Senior Inspector Luisito Acebuche, while they were allegedly trying to steal wires from an electric post at San Juan Street, Bacolod, at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, police reports said.*PP

Cop threatened me, man claims

The man who allegedly shot at two police officers in Bacolod City last week, yesterday claimed one of the cops had threatened him during the incident.

Roberto Arceña alias “Kid Ramir”, 52, reported to Police Station 2 that PO1 Kenneth Ronquillo had pointed his gun at him near a gasoline station at 18th Street, Brgy. 4, Bacolod, after midnight on March 16.

He said he had accompanied his friends and was on his way home when Ronquillo, PO1 Ricardo Villacastin, and an unidentified officer from the Negros Occidental Police Office waylaid him.

Arceña, who also surrendered two empty .9mm shells that he said could have come from Ronquillo’s gun, also said that he, the three officers, and his other friends had been drinking in a cockpit in Purok Nangka, Brgy. 3, Bacolod, before the incident.

Ronquillo and Villacastin, who are both detailed at Police Station 5, had said that it was Arceña who waylaid and shot at them, prompting Ronquillo to fire back.

The Bacolod City Police Office Intelligence and Investigation Division has been investigating the incident, including the allegations that Ronquillo and Villacastin entered a cockpit despite a standing prohibition.*PP
