Warning up on
deadly river - mayor

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Public warnings will be posted near the Pilyo-Pilyohan River in Brgy. Inapoy, Kabankalan City, where three Bacoleños drowned Monday, to prevent similar incidents, Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco said yesterday.

While it is impossible to restrict the public from frequenting the river due to its scenic location, Zayco said the least the city government can do is to advise the public to be careful while swimming in the river or simply strolling there.

He added that Pilyo-Pilyohan River, also dubbed by local residents as “mariit (spooky)”, attracts excursionists for its clear waters and the incident involving the three Bacoleños, winners in the dance showdown contest in nearby Brgy. Tabugon, was very unfortunate.

The three victims were identified by the police as Exequil Arroz, 17; Fred Am-is Jr., 18; and Cyril Olay, 22, all residents of Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City.

They were part of the group of 15 who decided to go swimming in the river after spending a night at Tabugon where they won in a dance showdown.*NAB
