Guns, ammo seized
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The police yesterday seized a cache of firearms and ammunition from an arrested former seaman, during a raid at his residence in Brgy. Alicante, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Evelyn Gengos, a police team led by Chief Inspector Samuel Mina swooped down on the house of Ronilo Majan, 52, at the St. Therese Subdivision.

Mina said the raid yielded three .22 caliber rifles with scopes, a .32 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver, a .45 caliber Armscor pistol, a 380 caliber pistol, 100 rounds for a .45 caliber pistol, 50 ammunition for 380 pistol, 30 bullets for .32 caliber revolver and 12 bullets for .22 caliber rifle, two gun holsters and jungle bolos.

Mina said he applied for a search warrant after they were informed that Majan possessed several firearms at his residence. Before the raid, he added, Majan had fired his .45 caliber pistol twice at his residence, while allegedly chasing robbers.

Majan presented his gun licenses for the 380 and .45 caliber pistols and an identification card of PRIMO (Prime Movers for Peace and Progress) under the Department of Interior and Local Government, signed by Manuel Cortez.

Police investigations showed that the seized firearms were purchased by Majan, while some had been pawned to him.

Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director, yesterday commended the E.B. Magalona police force headed by Mina for a job well done. “Carry on the good work,” he said.

Charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition are being readied against Majan who is now detained at the E.B. Magalona police station jail.*GPB
