dept. gets awards

The official publication of the Mass Communication Department of the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, “The Lead,” was recently awarded as the most outstanding tourism-oriented campus publication by the Department of Tourism in Region VI, a USLS press release said.

The award was given for the valuable contribution of “The Lead” in promoting domestic tourism awareness among the students and exposing the ideals and values of the youth to authentic Filipino culture and heritage.

Same citations of merit were given to “The Lead’s” moderator Allen del Carmen, the Chair of the USLS Mass Communication Department Ernest Marvin Latiza and all the members of the publication’s editorial staff, the press release said.

Meanwhile, Manuel Jeffrey Sistoso, a Mass Communication senior of USLS received two awards, namely, The Outstanding Students by the Junior Chamber International and the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy. Two other THOS nominees this year, Aries Carino and Carrie Franz Mendoza are also USLS Mass Communication students. Carino will graduate Magna Cum Laude this coming March 30, the press release added.*

8 receive training
scholarships

Eight honor graduates were awarded P5,000 worth of call center training scholarships each in Lasaltech Incorporated and Star of Asia Human Resources Training Development Incorporated, two TESDA-accredited training centers in Bacolod City, a press release from Aksyon Radyo said.

This is not only about scholarships, this is about stories of hope amid the trying times, radio station manager JJ Deocampo said during the awarding ceremonies held at the Lopue’s East activity center.

The graduates, picked by a panel of judges led by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, were chosen based on their academic records and family background. All of them are either working students or scholars who have to struggle through college.

They are Juleros Dorimon of Bacolod City College, Bonifacio Baroquillo – Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Allen Manzanares – Riverside Medical College, Jerlu Vincent Santillana – West Negros University, Rachel Grace Baylon – University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Rod John Bohol – Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, Romelie Balito – AMA Computer College, and Lino Pasuquin – La Consolacion College, the press release said.

The activity, the first of its kind launched by a local radio station, was also supported by Lopue’s East Center and Lopue’s Araneta, Board Member Melvin Ibañez and the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology Incorporated, the press release added.*

Bikini body painting set

A bikini body painting competition will be held 10 p.m. April 11 at the Romeos Resto Grille, 2nd floor, Metrodome , in Bacolod City,  a press release from organizers said.

It is open to all female models with an artist and limited to 10 only contestants.

Also set are a motorcade at 3 p.m. and a night of funs and games at the event venue, the press release added.*
