A suspected drug peddler was arrested by the mayor of Basay, Negros Oriental, recently, the police said yesterday.

Mayor Beda Cañamaque of Basay, a former police officer, apprehended Louven Jun Yuipco, 23, single, of Bayawan for alleged illegal drugs transaction.

Confiscated from the suspect were five small transparent sachets and two huge sachets containing the banned crystalline granules believed to be shabu, and P7,783.75 believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade.

Yuipco will be charged with violation of section 11 of Republic Act No.  9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, for illegal possession of shabu, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency action monitoring officer SPO1 Manuel Sanchez disclosed.
