Read literary pieces:
national artist

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Multi-awarded writer Francisco Sionil Jose  challenged students  at Foundation  University in Dumaguete City to  read  and  support  literary  works that  are  written  by  Filipino  authors.

Jose, who was the guest speaker  at the  commencement  exercises  of  FU Sunday, is an acclaimed  international writer  and member of  the  National Artists of  the  Philippines.

He was also a professional lecturer in Japan, Singapore and in Berkeley, California in the United States.

Jose expressed frustrations over the attitude of young Filipino students, who, he said, do not appreciate reading books and literary pieces, especially with the advent of advance information technology.

In  other  countries,  Filipino  authors  are  respected  and  mostly known  because  of  their  works, and foreign students   love to read  them, he said.*MA
