| Two policemen are now in jail after being arrested by their colleagues in the cities of San Carlos and Silay, for illegal possession of drugs and firearms, police records show.
Police Officer 2 Allan Baguio, a member of the Santa Catalina Police Station in Negros Oriental, who has been on AWOL (absent-without-leave) status for two months now, was apprehended yesterday in Brgy. Bulwangan, San Carlos City, for illegal possession of firearms.
Police Officer 1 Brenold Jarina, a member of the Sagay City Police Station, was also intercepted by operatives of the PNP Aviation Security Group at the airport in Silay City, on March 19, for having an improvised tooter with traces of shabu, police said.
In his report to Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director, Supt. Roderick Augustus Alba, Silay police chief, said Jarina, 26, also tested positive for drug use at the PNP Crime Laboratory.
Jarina is now facing charges for violation of Sections 12 and 15 of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002, before the Silay City Prosecutor’s Office.
Supt. William Senoron, Sagay police chief, yesterday said that administrative charges will also be filed against Jarina.
Police investigations show that a tooter with traces of shabu was found by AVSEGROUP operatives hidden in a lipstick case which Jarina initially refused to open, during a check up at the Silay airport passenger terminal building.
Senoron said he had earlier ordered Jarina to explain his failure to report to duty on March 18.
Alba said Jarina has already been transferred from the police lock-up cell to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology detention center in Silay City.
Supt. Harold Tuzon said Baguio who had a hand gun, was creating trouble, when he was arrested by policemen led by SPO2 Lamberto Mirande in Brfgy. Bulwangan, San Carlos City.
Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, said a 357 caliber magnum revolver with three live ammunition was recovered from Baguio who is now in jail. He failed to present documents allowing him to possess and carry the firearm.
Investigations showed that Baguio had been disarmed because of complaints that he had threatened his mother-in-law with a gun, in Santa Catalina.
Tuzon said Senior Inspector Mario Jungco, Santa Catalina police chief, also said that Baguio had indiscriminately fired his gun in December last year.
Tuzon said charges for illegal possession of firearms are expected to be filed today against Baguio, before the City Prosecutor’s Office of San Carlos.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, meanwhile, is investigating the shooting of a civilian allegedly perpetrated by PO3 Rex Siason in Brgy. Tiling, Cauayan, on March 23.
The victim identified as Tirso Mullon, 38, is now being treated for a gunshot wound in the left shoulder, after he was shot by Siason.
Mullon who was allegedly drunk, reportedly harassed sexually the daughter of Siason.
Franco said Siason has been placed under the custody of Senior Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Ilog police chief.*GPB
