Prices of goods monitored
BY ROMY AMARADO

The Dumaguete City government will coordinate with other government agencies to monitor prices of prime commodities in the market, Mayor Agustin Perdices said recently.

He said some businessmen might take advantage of the situation. The city and other agencies will have to check on the prices of goods, especially rice.

“We will work together. We will monitor the pricing, whether their increase is warranted or not,” Perdices said.

He, however, said some businessmen in the city have already assured him they will not unfairly increase the prices of commodities.

Meanwhile, Perdices also said that the more than two weeks strike of port workers in Dumaguete is causing an increase of prices of some goods.

Because of the problem, he said, traders have opted to use alternative routes to bring their goods to the city, which jacked up their transport and other related expenses, prompting them to also increase the prices of their commodities.

"Actually, this additional expense will be passed on by businessmen to consumers. Eventually, it is the consumers who will be at the losing end," Perdices said.*RA
