| The body of a man believed summarily executed, was buried yesterday afternoon when no one claimed it at a funeral parlor in Bacong town, about 15 minutes south of Dumaguete City.
The victim was still unidentified as of press time yesterday, police investigators said.
Bacong police said that the body, already in the state of rigor mortis, was found in a former quarrying site that locals call the “basurahan” or garbage dump, in Barangay Combado of that town, on Monday afternoon.
Three children playing with slingshots saw the body and started screaming, catching the attention of Manuel Sarita, who was in the vicinity then, the police added.
Responding policemen found the man's head wrapped in clear plastic, with his mouth covered with packaging tape.
The victim was described to be around 5’5” tall, of medium built with fair complexion and curly hair, between 33 to 35 years old, wearing a pair of camouflage shorts and a dark jacket.
The police found nothing that could help them identify the man except for a distinguishable tattoo of a skull on his left shoulder.
A post mortem examination conducted by the Bacong municipal health officer, Dr. Vivien Marie Ceniza, showed that the man had suffered from at least seven gunshot wounds. There were also bruises, the police said.
Bacong OIC police chief S/Insp. Edilberto Gravador said they estimate that the body was dumped at the former quarry site Monday.
No one living in the area could identify the victim, and police believe he was not a resident.
Mayor Lenin Alviola had ordered the body buried as it was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police stations have been alerted on reports of missing persons and relatives advised to just proceed to Bacong to view his pictures. The police believe he was a salvage victim, Gravador added.*JG
