Msgr. G.G. Gaston officiated at the Easter Sunday Mass, which coincided with the last day novena prayers for the late Joseph Marañon held at Nature’s Village Resort.
In his homily, Msgr. Gaston emphasized the goodness and charisma of the late governor.
On March 17, 10,000 mourners had joined the family to bid goodbye to the governor. As early as 6 a.m., the St. Joseph Church was already overflowing with students from the nearby barangays, not to mention Capitol and city officials and employees.
After the mass on Sunday, Aida Marañon thanked everybody who condoled with them on the passing of her husband, and those who contributed to the chosen charity foundations of their family.
Dinner was served buffet style with four long tables filled with salad, roasted chicken and lechon.
Among those present were Gretchen Cojaungco, Bitay and Tima Lacson, Zontas Toti and Inday Trebol, Nelia Jacinto, Millie Kilayko, Jimmy and Tess Golez, mayors and vice mayors.
Sagay Mayor Freddie Marañon and sister, Sonia, as well as children Matet and John, Alex and Marilu Yupangco, went from table to table to say thank you. It was late in the evening, but almost all the visitors stayed with the first family of Negros.

On Good Friday, our group, with Bamboo Tonogbanua, joined the traditional procession behind the “caro” of Nonoy and Girl Cuaycong. Aside from the “Black Nazarene, “Weeping Woman of Jerusalem”, and “Jesus before the High Priest,” another one was added to the procession – “The Triumphant entry to Jerusalem”, owned by Jomari Sy.
Hundreds of people joined the procession and I think, it surpassed the attendance last year.
Blessed and Glorious Holy Week. God is Risen.
Remember: When God blesses, He does not add trouble to it.*
