Army commander
calls on school heads

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Colonel Cesar Yano, head of the newly arrived 302nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, yesterday called on the presidents of the four universities in Dumaguete City.

At Silliman University, Dr. Ben Malayang discussed his efforts to instill love of country among the students, and offered the military officers a negotiated arrangement for them to avail of master’s degree courses.

The Silliman ROTC cadets were the first to be integrated into the United States Armed Forces in the Far East or the USAFFE during the Second World War.

Dr. Mira Sinco of Foundation University delved on the issue of values development as the key to national progress. She said that value transformation and individual discipline are important aspects for national survival.

The head of St Paul, Sister Nilda Masirag, described discipline as the centerpiece of her administration.

Dr. Henry Sojor of Negros Oriental State University discussed ways of pushing the ROTC program as a vehicle for instilling discipline among the students who are mostly from the rural areas.

Yano assured the schools of the support of his unit by providing needed amenities for the ROTC training. He was also allowed to conduct Security Awareness Symposium in schools.*RG
