Be faithful to vocation
PRIESTS TOLD
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Bishop John Du reminded the clergy of their priestly vocation during the Chrism Mass for the renewal of their commitment to the priesthood held during the Holy Week at St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral Church, Dumaguete City.

About 100 members of the clergy participated  in  the celebration that included vocation, mission  and  retired  priests  in  the  diocese which covers churches from Jimalalud  to  Basay, Negros  Oriental.

The prelate reiterated  his  challenge  to   the  priests to remain  faithful  in  their  vocation, and serve  for  the truth  and in the service of God.

Priests should realize that their vocation is from God and not from  their own  selves. They should be Christ-centered and always be the first one  to love, he added.

Du said being a priest is forever.

He also challenged the community to pray for their priests always, for them to become faithful ministers of Christ.

Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, vicar general  of  the  Diocese,  said priests are not  prohibited  from  discussing  political issues such as the aborted NBN-ZTE deal, during their  homily.

They  should, however,  be watchful  that  their  sermon  is bound  to what is  the  truth, basing  on the  stand of  the  Catholic Bishops  Conference  of  the  Philippines, Tulabing added.

Tulabing said it is part of their priesthood duty to preach the truth and only the truth.*MA
