| Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra and Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday called on Negrenses to spend Holy Week peacefully reflecting on Christ.
Navarra encouraged the faithful to be more sober in their way of life in remembrance of the passion and death of the Lord.
In memory of Christ’s suffering, all faithful need to learn the generosity of offering one’s self for the sake of others, and for Filipinos, for the sake of the country, Navarra said.
This Holy Week, the bishop said that the Christian community in Bacolod Diocese should be conscious of their obligations, especially with regards to charity and in the promotion of good deeds and values.
Meanwhile, Zayco called on all Negrenses to help ensure a peaceful observance of Holy Week in Negros Occidental.
Let us all pause and take time to reflect on Christ’s death on the cross to save us from our sins, he said.
The governor also said the burning of two sugarcane transloading stations in Barangay San Jose, Toboso, Sunday night was detrimental to the sugar industry.
The Army has tagged the New People’s Army as behind the attack.
I appeal to whoever was responsible for the burning to settle differences through dialog rather than resorting to such moves, he said.
Meanwhile, he said the law enforcement agencies were on top of the situation.*CPG/NB
