| The Negros Occidental provincial government will mark what would have been the 74th birthday of Gov. Joseph Marañon today with a mass, while a cooperative bank will be inaugurated to honor his legacy, Gov. Isidro Zayco said yesterday.
Marañon, who had been governor of Negros Occidental for seven years, passed away on March 13 and was laid to rest in Sagay City on Monday.
Zayco said a mass will be held at the Social Hall of the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City at 8:30 a.m. today in remembrance of the governor.
The public is invited to join the Capitol employees in marking his birthday, Zayco said,
Nestor Bayona, vice chairman of the board of the Negros Cooperative Bank, said the NCB located at the North Capitol Road in Bacolod City will also be inaugurated at 9:30 a.m. today.
The inauguration is being held on Marañon’s birthday to honor his legacy, Bayona said.
Meanwhile, Zayco said his priorities as governor will be to ensure the completion of the projects Marañon had started.
Among them is the transfer of the provincial jail to Bago City, the relocation of the Provincial Environment Management Office and the upgrading of the Valeriano Gatuslao District Hospital in Himamaylan, which the provincial government had allocated P30 million for, Zayco said.
Zayco said other priorities will also be set in the next two years.
He said the filling of the vacuum in the Negros Occidental Sanggunian with Board Member Emilio Yulo III‘s having been elevated to vice governor will be up to the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino.
Since Yulo is a member of KAMPI it will be up to his party to name his replacement on the provincial board if it wants to fill the post, Zayco said.*CPG
