IBP to probe
farmstead anomaly

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines -- Negros Oriental chapter is extending its cooperation in any investigation that concerns alleged violations of the Anti-Graft Law, its provincial president Samsodin Tahir said yesterday.

Tahir said he welcomes the invitation of the city government for him to be a member of an investigative body looking into alleged anomalies at the city farmstead in Barangay Talay, Dumaguete.

The committee will submit its recommendations to Mayor Agustin Perdices after reviewing the findings. At least two employees will be sacked for their involvement or participation in the anomalous transactions, reports said.

Tahir said that one of their duties is to help in any investigation that is geared towards seeking the truth.

Meanwhile, the local government unit of Sibulan will ensure that the municipality will not be used as a transit point for contrabands such as firearms and illegal drugs.

The LGU has acquired a speed boat for the Bantay Dagat to address illegal fishing activity. At the same time, the equipment will be used in guarding the seas off Sibulan against criminal elements who are intending to smuggle in contraband items, its chief of police, Senior Insp Errol Garchitorena said.

A cache of firearms was intercepted at the Sibulan wharf, following intelligence reports it is being smuggled from Cebu to Mindanao via Sibulan and Dumaguete.

In an effort to curb criminality, Garchitorena had organized the tricycle and trisikad drivers and put a stop to drag racing among minors.*JG
